Programmeur
Tienstra creëert regelmatig programmering voor zowel concertuitvoering als liturgie, voor orkesten, ensembles en festivals (e.g. Nederlands Gregoriaans Festival, Musica Sacra, Nachtlicht Festival).
Zijn programmering kenmerkt zich door een meer beschouwend karakter, waarbij hij put uit alle hoeken van de muziekgeschiedenis. Als componist, dirigent, kerkmusicus, musicoloog en docent beschikt hij over een uitgebreide repertoirekennis en assisteert hij collega's graag in hun programmering.
2010-2020: programmeur ensembles bij Muziek in Jeroen, Noordwijk.
2013-2023: programmeur Allerzielenconcerten, Oegstgeest.
2013-2018: programmeur van PASSIO: gregoriaans en hedendaagse muziek.
2021-2025: artistiek leider van het Nederlands Gregoriaans Festival, Den Bosch.

Muziektheater
Tienstra werkt al vele jaren samen met muziektheater-gezelschappen in een breed scala aan projecten, met name muziektheater op locatie. Bij Stichting KunstKlank (Noordwijk) was hij eerder betrokken als arrangeur, dirigent en programmeur.
